Recources are becoming increasingly scare. All over the world, the current model of linear growth is showing its limits. Lack of virgin resources and raw materials is asking everybody to move towards circular economies.
From different point of views we discuss the possibilities to re-consider and re-imagine waste as innovative resources and reversing the perception on discarded materials and land use.
Libera Amenta is fascinated by the opportunities hidden in vacant buildings, and in derelict spaces in urban and peri-urban areas. Tonight she describes how the recycling of waste and of “wasted landscapes” can positively affect urban metabolism.
Wout Kommer is one of the desingers of KarTent. How do we get summer festivals sustainable and autarkic? D.EXTO in Delft is trying to anwer that question. One of the solutions made is the Kartent. The cardboard tents ensure a reduction of the enormous waste of tents after the festivals. And cardboard is a beautiful material… as Jan Schoonhoven already know.
Rik van Hazendonk will relate the discussion to the current art exhibition in Kadmium ‘In het spoor van Jan Schoonhoven- Basale eenvoud’
